View/print sheet music:     Piano Duet--Primo     Piano Duet--Secondo

Melody by Mildred Pettit (Copyright 1957 LDS); Arranged by Sally DeFord

Lyrics to this familiar children's song may be found on page 2 of the LDS Children's Songbook.
One of the challenges that pops up when writing piano duets is finding the best way to put them on paper. The average pianist doesn't want to deal with incessant leger lines or too-frequent page turns. With my daughter Holly's help, I decided on the following format for this one:

Both staves of the primo are in treble clef, and the right hand is played one octave higher than written. The top staff of the secondo is in treble cleff, and played one octave lower than written. The parts are printed on two separate scores of three pages each. The end of the first page is an easy page turn, but to make that possible the number of measures on each page is different for each part--you'll need to use the measure numbers (not page position) to stay in sync.

Your feedback on the format is welcome.

One final note: This duet is meant to be played expressively. If the players charge through it like a midi machine (or a typist on an old IBM Selectric, or a pair of draft horses...) it's just not going to sound right. Give it some feeling!
