Heaven’s Embrace

I am encircled about eternally in the arms of his love.
2 Nephi 1:15
About the Song

Throughout my life I have found great peace through prayer. He has answered my prayers of thanks and expressions of joy, and has also comforted me in difficult times when my needs were more insistent and my urgency greater. As I approached the Lord during one of the latter times, when a beloved brother fought for his life in an ICU, I felt (not for the first time) as though the Lord simply put His arms around me–not physically, but spiritually–and though I didn’t know what the outcome would be, I knew that He was aware of our needs and would do what was right for His children.

It occurred to me then that when we approach our Heavenly Father like the children we are, He does what every loving parent does: He puts His arms around us, and prayer becomes like the embrace of heaven. Psalm 57 begins this way: “…in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge…” What a comfort to know that the Lord is willing and waiting to give each of us shelter in the shadow of his wings, and encircle us in the arms of His great love.

Lyrics

When shadows gather
When shades of night descend
I kneel to lay my burdens
At the Father’s feet again
I offer up my sorrow
Entrust to Him my grief
And at His touch my heart is filled with peace

(Chorus)
Borne upon a prayer
My soul is lifted up
Enfolded in the arms of everlasting love
Cradled in His kindness
Sheltered by His grace
Like a child in heaven’s embrace

When heartaches linger
And tears I cannot stay
I find my hope and refuge
In His presence as I pray
No hurt beyond His healing
No pain beyond His reach
And at His touch my heart is filled with peace

(Repeat chorus)

I delight in your music and am thankful that because of your life for the Lord you share these as a gift to those who seek Him. Thank you for sharing your gift. I’m excited to hear this.

Unfortunately, I’m a self-taught pianist. My mother could only forward 2 or 3 weeks of lessons for me from a girl in our Chowchilla, California branch. Once lessons stopped, I learned to play the organ and later the piano by reading those big bubble beginner music books that my mother had purchased with the organ that she felt impressed to but, although a single mom with a limited budget. To play the left hand, I also memorized The organ/guitar chords. Although I know how to play a G-minor, D-minor, or c minor, or B-flat major, I’ve just never taken the time to learn how to play bass clef! If you’d consider putting organ /guitar chords on your sheet music, I would be truly grateful!🙂

    Thank you,

    Christine

I was totally lost at the passing of my uncle this past week. I met you at a performance (well several of them) in Roswell, NM several years ago and my thoughts went to your composing abilities as I chose a number to sing at my uncle’s funeral. As soon as my mother and I heard “Heaven’s Embrace” we knew that would be perfect. My uncle had to live 14 years without his wife after her passing from cancer, but today, they are together again. Thank you for making this music available to church members for use in church meetings! Your music has helped me in leading choir through the many years that I had that calling and it touched the lives of so many.

The song is so amazing! I was asked to sing at my Patriarchs funeral. U was trying to find a song that would being the spirit and I found it. Even when I did not sing this song because was to new to learn it in few hours, I listen it for several times to get the spirit with me and be able to select a song. I felt the song getting into my spirit, I felt the love of the Savior in every note and also my own sufferings! I wish one day I may sing it well.
