Christ the Lord is Born

In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.
Titus 1:2 KJV

About the Song

When Christ the Lord was born many wonderful, beautiful things happened: a heavenly messenger appeared to shepherds in the fields; a multitude of angels followed, praising God and proclaiming peace; a new star was set among the heavens; and wise men first saw the star for which they had been watching. Most wonderful and beautiful of all, God kept the promise He made before the world began: that He would send us a Savior to bring us the hope of eternal life.

I am so grateful for this time of year with it’s lights and festivities, it’s increase in goodwill among us, and especially the promised Savior, Jesus Christ, sent to save us and bring us home to Him. This song inadequately expresses my gratitude for those beautiful things, but really, nothing could ever adequately express them.

The recording below is sung by my lovely friend, Rebecca Lord. The song is currently just solo voice. Maybe I’ll get around to an SATB and other such things, but I’m out of steam (not to mention time!) for the season.

If you need a different key, you’ll find instructions for transposing it in the sheet music tab below. I will warn you that the accompaniment uses the penultimate low note on the piano (and you really can’t omit the octave in this one) so the most you’ll get downward is a half-step. If you want to move it *up* that gives you a bit more room, though it’s already got quite a bit of range in it. IOW, good luck. 😉

Lyrics

Streams of holy light
Wash away the night
Darkness put to flight
When Christ the Lord is born

Glory hastens on
The long-awaited dawn
Shadow’s veil withdrawn
When Christ the Lord is born

Lo! The Gift of heaven
Unto us is given
Tune your hearts and listen
Hear the angels sing
Of peace to still our weeping
Finding for our seeking
God, His promise keeping
Come, behold your king!

Joyfully we bow
‘Round His cradle now
Here is perfect Love come down
When Christ the Lord is born

Christ the Lord is born
