Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

About the Song

Text by Robert Robinson;
Melody from John Wyeth’s “Repository of Sacred Music,” Part Second;
Arranged by Sally DeFord

This beautiful melody tugged at me for quite awhile, and though there are plenty of arrangements of it out there I gave in and did one anyway, simply for the pleasure of arranging it.

This is a very simple arrangement, without even a single key change. The obbligato included is written for two C instruments. In recordings it’s easy to balance a solo voice and two instruments–in live performance it will be tricky to use two instruments without overpowering a solo voice. The obbligatos will probably only be useful for choral renditions, unless your soloist is well amplified.

A harmonization for TTBB men’s voices with soloist is included.  The score is just voice parts–use the solo score to accompany it.

Lyrics

Come, thou fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of thy redeeming love.

Here I raise my Ebenezer; ( def. )
Here by thy great help I’ve come;
And I hope, by thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for thy courts above.

    Our choir is doing this Arrangements and so we’re looking for samples on your website here how to sing it. But all your examples are just of solo female voice even though the arrangement calls for men’s voices after the first verse so I’m trying to find an example I can practice with please.

    Do you have a recording of the accompaniment tracks in the key of C? I have two youth doing the violin part with the SATB music and I wanted them to listen to the recording so they can get a better feel for how it sounds and know when to come in, but the alternate key is throwing them off.

    When I download the .pdf of the spanish version, it will only print the first two lines of each page and then just has the lyrics on the remaining half of each page. Is there a way to fix this so I can print it? Needing this version ASAP.

    This is simply the most beautiful arrangement of this song I have ever heard. I love the Tabernacle Choir version as well, but this is one I can actually play! I heard someone sing the solo version last Sunday and it brought me to tears. Thank you for sharing your gift and for making this available to us and with so many variations. It is indeed one of our favorite songs!

    We would like to use your TTBB arrangement of “Come Thou Fount on Every Blessing” which has several measures of presumably accompaniment. Where could we find the accompaniment?

    Thank you for sharing these arrangements. The TTBB Personal Composer file is actually a .pdf. Would it be possible to get the actual .pc file? I would like to transpose it.

    Sally, Thank you so much for your arrangement for Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing. I could only find solos for alto or soprano. I’m a mezzo soprano. I spent a lot of time checking online and couldn’t find a version that fit me, until I found yours. I just got through singing your arrangement . It’s perfect for me ! Whoopee ! I love this song, Now I can sing it comfortably too, thanks to you.

    I love your compositions and that you freely share them with us. Thank you! Do you have any that are for a soprano solo with a violin descant/part? I would love to do a duet with my son.

    Thanks,

    Hi there!
    We are trying to download sheet music to do a Soprano/alto duet to the TJ Larsen minus track of Come Thou Fount. Which sheet music is in the same key as that track and provides an alto part as well as the soprano part?
    Thank you so much for all the beautiful music!!

    Dear Sally,
    The free downloads site said to let you know I got something and like it! Thank you for blessing so many lives for a long time. I just got the “Come Thou Fount” for medium voice for a group of singers who will fill in some parts, and the instrumental obligato for 2 C instruments. My favorite of your songs, BTW, is “If the Savior Stood Beside Me.” Thank you for your consecrated musical service!
