Peace, Peace, Be Still

And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Mark 4:39 KJV

“Peace, Peace, Be Still” by Natasha Nashadka

About the Song

Words by Sally DeFord
Music by Katherine Wright (wrightmusicstudio.com)

Sometimes when life gets stormy, the Lord speaks and there’s a great calm–a calm that happens in our hearts even when the tempest continues around us.

The words to this song were written during what I thought was a stormy time in my life. I thought that storm was the reason I was writing those words. How naive we humans can be! 🙂  If you want the full story, read about it in this blog post: When the Tempest Rages.

Katherine’s beautiful melody is set for hymn, SATB choir, and medium-voice solo. It wasn’t done in personal composer so there are no .pc files available, but the range is such that it’s probably doable for most voices.

Included in the YouTube tab is a lyric video showing start-to-finish progress of the cover artwork by Natasha Nashadka (nashadka.com).

Lyrics

When upon the rising seas the angry billows roll
My Savior is my refuge and the harbor of my soul
For when the tempest rages; when night grows dark and chill
He comes to bid my fearful heart,
“Peace, peace, be still.”

When before a rising tide of pain or grief I flee
The Lord will hear my anguished cry and haste to rescue me
For He can calm the tempest according to His will
Or come and bid my fearful heart,
“Peace, peace, be still.”

He who made the rising storm can bid its fury fail
Or bear me up and give me strength to stand before the gale
I’ll wait upon His kindness, and trust in Him until
He calms the wind or bids my heart,
“Peace, peace, be still.”
