Holy Is the Lord

“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.”

Isaiah 6:3 KJV

“…even the night shall be light about me.”

Psalm 139:11 KJV

The Tetons. Not Colorado Springs. 😉

About the Song

Some songs have amazing stories, and for some songs, the lyrics themselves are the story. This is one of the latter. It’s a song about light–both literal and symbolic.

The inspiration came from the memory of watching the sun rise over Colorado Springs as I drove home from teaching a 5:30 a.m. Seminary class. The message of the song is simple: the Lord is the Light of the world.

Lyrics

When morning breaks to sing His praise
And show the world the Maker’s face
When every wonder of His hand reveals His perfect plan
My song awakens with the rising morn:
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord

When through the dark my path may lead
The Lord of Light will guide my feet
His love will lead me safely on into the waiting dawn
My fiery pillar going on before:
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord

And in that hour when Christ will come
With glory brighter than the Sun
To cast the shades of night away and welcome endless day
My song will waken with the rising morn:
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord

An extremely beautiful song. Very moving. I’m adding it to my repertoire and singing it this coming Sunday, October 11.
The music Sally provides fills the world with such wonderfulness. Since finding the DeFord music website I have sang so many of James Loynes pieces, as well as, other vocalists. My congregations rave over the music; words and music.

It’s 6 in the morning, my usual waking up time (yes, I’m a morning person) and I have just listened to your song. What a wonderful way to start my Sunday. Thank you.

Wow. It took my breath away! Not many songs do that first time-but I was filled with peace and love and hope. I’m so glad the Lord speaks through you, and you are able to make it a tangible, communicative spiritual event. I just thank you!!!
