In the Silent Garden

About the Song

Anthem accompaniment includes piano, organ and two flutes. This is a difficult number to prepare, and sounds best with a large choir.

This song is part of the “In Him We Live” cantata.

Lyrics

Come at the dawn to the silent garden
Brightly beams the morning sun
Come at the dawn to the silent garden
See what wonder the Lord has done!

Come to the tomb in the silent garden
Lo! the stone is rolled away
Linger in awe, for the tomb lies empty
See the place where His body lay

He is risen! He is risen! risen unto endless life
Weep no more in the silent garden
Death is swallowed up in Christ

Seek Him no more in the silent garden
Seek Him not among the dead
Find Him in glory among the living
Risen even as He said

Victory is wrought in the silent garden
Joy is born of an empty tomb
Sing for the morning of our salvation
Christ has brought us life anew

He is risen! He is risen! risen unto endless life
Weep no more in the silent garden
Death is swallowed up in Christ

I love this song to pieces, due to the words and the great music written for it, I plan to sing it in church around Easter 2020, but wondered if you could make a solo using the melody line from the original, except a bit lower for just a few spots, for those of us that don’t hit high e well. You could make a low solo and high solo anyway I know, thank you Sally, have loved your music for years and years, our choir has sang multiple songs of yours and I know the spirit has been with you when writing the lyrics!

If not enough time, I plan to use the orginal SATB Music and sing the solo with it! I love it that much!

I’ve never really envisioned it as a solo… I’ll have to think about this one!

Thank you dear one, it will work out with the same music written for SATB, I am positive! I’ve already been practicing too, can’t know it too much! I’ve loved this song from when you first wrote it, the music and the words both! Just a tweak and it works!

Do you offer piano and flute duet music for Easter or songs about the Savior from Church hymn arrangements?

I agree with the question, yes please, there isn’t enough Easter music in church for the organ most! But a duet would also be most wonderful!

I would love to have the recording done by James, or anyone really. This is one of my favorites. I noticed that older cd’s with James on them are no longer offered, sad about that really, no help for it though I’m sure.

Althea, I offer CDs for convenience… obviously… since the tracks are free for download here. My CD company discontinues disks that haven’t been purchased in 6 months, so older ones often drop off. Physical media just isn’t the thing these days. 🙂

I understand Sally, times are a changing huh? Some of us just aren’t ready to stream for evermore, but I wear out the cd’s, just going to keep adding them to itunes first! Thanks, Sally!

We sang the anthem “In the Silent Garden” this Sunday. I am so appreciative of all the songs of yours I have used as choir director, but this one especially touched me. I continued to discover layers of meaning in the song up to and including the performance in sacrament meeting. My testimony was strengthened through this process.

The generous way in which you share your musical creations is also an inspiration to me. Thank you for all you do.
