Come Home

“…the Father of us all…stands with arms outstretched, cheering us on, asking us to come home to him and to his beloved Son, our Savior.”

Clinton L. Cutler

About the Song

Words by Penelope Moody Allen
Music by Michael F. Moody
Arranged by Sally DeFord

We used this song in its original hymn-style version (which may be downloaded here) in our ward choir, and I liked it so much that when Michael suggested that I arrange it as a choral anthem, I was thrilled at the idea. Since Heather and I were working on a project at the time, I also arranged it for solo with equal-voice harmony and we used it on the “Reaching for the Light” album.

The scores provided all have identical piano parts. The differences are in the voicings, and whether or not the obbligatos are included in the score. (It makes the score much shorter to leave them out.) The obbligatos are also provided as a separate score for easier reading for your instruments.

Lyrics

Come home, the Father calls.
Come home, my child, to me.
Come home.
The Holy Ghost will lead you to eternity.

Chorus:
Lest we forget our home’s with God,
This lovely earth, its seas, its sky
And all things beautiful and true
of Heav’nly Father testify.

Come home, the Savior calls.
Come home all who’ll obey.
Come home. The gospel guides
along the straight and narrow way.

(Repeat chorus)

Come home, loved voices call.
Come home where you belong.
Come home to live in joy
forever in our fam’ly throng.

(Repeat chorus)

Thank you for these compositions and arrangements suitable to most any church choir. I am finding that I must be careful not to plan my entire year around Sally DeFord songs as you offer so many wonderful and suitable options. I have a new job with a small church with a tiny budget so am enjoying still being able to offer them these fresh anthems. What a gift!

Sally, I took this song and sang it as a duet with myself. It worked beautifully and was in a comfortable range for “both” of us. Thank you Sally.

Sally, This is beyond beautiful! I could listen to it over and over. Can’t wait to start my vocal students on it as a duet.
