Whole Again
Over the past 200+ years, the use of the word “repent” has declined sharply. Nobody likes to feel that they’re wrong. Nobody wants to think that they need to do better. We don’t want to feel guilty, or sorry, or any of those other “negative” emotions associated with the word “repentance.”
And yet, that’s precisely what the Lord wants us to do: accept our guilt–feel truly sorry for the harm it may have done others and ourselves… abandon the behavior… fix what we can fix (however inadequate that may be)–and let Him take it from us. Because getting better should be–and is–a remarkably happy thing.
As I thought about the idea of repentance, I wanted a song that looked at it in a positive light. One that expressed the joy of coming to Him broken and sad, and feeling the the touch of His grace that makes us whole again.
As it happens, that joy is pretty much inexpressible… but I tried. This is the result.

I come before the throne of God
My kneeling soul is filled with wond’ring awe
As the Savior’s tender mercy
heals the wounds of all my sin
I praise the love
that makes me whole again
I come in hope; I come in faith
To feel the touch of His redeeming grace
As I offer him my broken heart
He heals the hurt within
And I praise the love
that makes me whole again
Alleluia! my healing spirit cries
As He reaches out his hand to bid me rise
Alleluia! praise the Healer of all men
Who makes me more than what I was
And sees beyond what I am
And when I fall He lifts me up
Restores my soul, removes my bitter cup
For He heals my every heartache,
and He carries all my pain
And I praise the love
that makes me whole again

I was looking for Whole Again by Attom Kitten and came across this. Lovely instrumental piano music and lovely lyrics.
Hi! Where is the recording with Reagan…I can’t remember her last name. It’s the alto version – the best, in my humble opinion. 🙂
I’m trying to find the high voice version.
Hello Sally!
I am new to your musical genius! I played a couple of your piano solos in my United Methodist Church in Londonderry, NH this past Christmas. So beautiful!!
I love this Whole Again solo, but would love it in a higher key for a soprano. Is there a way to make that happen? I have limited technical abilities, so would need your guidance! Your offer for free downloads is such a gift to those of us who are struggling financially in our churches following Covid. My gratitude is overwhelming!!!
Thanks and blessings,
Bev Mattson
I’d love to have a copy of this. Thank you!
Beautiful lyrics and music. The cello is my favorite instrument when played well.
I agree. A base guitar, perhaps.
Nice cadence. The song would be beautiful accompanied by a guitar. Great message!
