A New Christmas Carol and an Unexpected Helicopter Ride

Nov 6, 2025 | Musings, new

My Christmas Carol for the year (and probably several more years after that) is called “Safe In Mary’s Arms.”

I am so thankful for James Loynes taking the time to do this one for me, back in the summer. I won’t be doing any more of my projects for quite some time. Here’s why.

Imagine… you are just siting down to watch an old movie and suddenly…

blank
just blank
what is going on?
mountains
I think
ER?
I think
yes ER

you’re alright hang tight
you’re alright hang tight
mountains again
this time from the air
in a helicopter?

I must be in a helicopter.

you’re alright hang tight
you’re alright
you’re…

It’s July
I think
I suffered a massive stroke
the docs snapped me back down to earth
at considerable expense and considerable inconvenience

But it is all wrong.

aphasia
apraxia
WHAT IS THIS???
a lot of other things my neurologist can identify
and I can’t
too many others

no handwriting
no texting
no typing
no spelling
no phone calls
no long forms in doctor offices
no piano

No. Piano.

sometimes no anything

my brain is okay
my brain is okay
my brain is okay
but
my language is confused
and I have to relearn it
all of it
like a child

This is stroke.
This is pretty much what the early stage of my recovery looks like.

It’s a very long haul.

There are a few things I need to tidy up over the next few months. I’ll post them when I can.

(A big thank you to my husband who is my typist and mind-reader.)
