The Angels Came to Sing… again. 🙂
Once upon a time… about 12 years ago… I wrote a simple Christmas song called “The Angels Came to Sing.”
Sometime between then and now, I decided that my kids and grandbabies need to have all of their songs in a single collection, along with a few other miscellaneous children’s songs I’ve written or arranged.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the things we decide to do would just magically be done? Ah well, it has only taken me a decade or so, but it looks like it may actually be finished in my lifetime.
The next installment in the collection is a reworking of “The Angels Came to Sing.” This time I gave the first couple of lines to the vocalist a cappella, and used verse three as a bridge, so it’s a bit different from the original. Scores are available in high- and low- voice solo versions, both with optional bells.
Here’s a recording with vocals by Allyse Smith Taylor:
(In case you’re wondering, there’s no written orchestra score, since the “orchestra” you hear on the track is of the digital variety, and was just improvised on a keyboard.)
The collection is still a work in progress, but at least it’s in progress! I’ll upload the finished tracks and arrangements one by one until it’s complete, at which time I’ll put it all together in one neat package. Maybe it will be done before another 12 years flies by. 🙂
In other too-late-to-be-much-use-for-this-year news, I found an SSA of “On a Still and Starry Night,” lurking on my computer, so I finished it up and it’s now available as well.
Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Thank you for enriching my life with your music–at Christmas and all year long. On a Still and Starry Night got me through a difficult Christmas season a few years back; the message of the words and the beautiful melody made all the difference for me that year.
The Angels Came to Sing: I’m in love with this song. Teary eyed! You are a brilliant writer.
I know you wrote this updated version several years ago now but for me it is indescribably beautiful. I especially love the a capella intro. We had a young mother of four (with another on the way) sing this for Christmas 2020 and I cried like a baby at the powerful imagery of a young mother singing, “Heaven watches o’er each cradle/O’er each cradle heaven smiles/For the Lord of earth and heaven/was Himself a little child”.
Thank you for sharing the gift of wonderful, inspiring music with us!
Is this song available to purchase? It’s beautiful!
Another beautiful piece that I will be using with our soloist for the midnight service on Christmas Eve. Your music is our soloists favorite and consistent choice , nearly every single week. We at Candleberry Chapel, here in Attelboro, Massachussetts, are exceptually fond of your music. Thank you so much for sharing your gift of music with us, in the worshiping of our Lord.
Thanks, Scott! That’s so kind. Have a wonderful Christmas!
How lovely, Sally. I loved it. I miss you very much. I want to use this song soon. Thanks.
Absolutely lovely! Thank you so very much.
Beautiful! It gives a sense of peace. May peace be with you and yours this Christmas season!
I think that is beautiful. Thank you so very much.
For some unexplained reason, I can’t upload the score or the vocalist…I signed up for the “cloud” .. still nothing. Am I doing something wrong??? hmm-mmm.
Hmmmm… indeed. I’m afraid I don’t quite understand what’s happening though. Can you give me more detail? Are you actually trying to upload something? Or just download tracks?
Very beautiful, I love it!
