Close as a Quiet Prayer
The latest chapter of my “Songs for My Children and Grandbabies” saga is titled…
Hopefully neither of them will know it worked out that way until it doesn’t matter any more.
Killian’s song is called “Close as a Quiet Prayer.” I wrote it for him in the hope that he will always remember that Heavenly Father is never far away, and listens to his prayers no matter where he is or what he’s doing.
That knowledge has been a comfort to me throughout my life, and I hope it’s a comfort to him.
The song is voiced for children, and for vocal solo. Here’s a recording of the solo version, featuring vocals by Allyse Smith Taylor, and cello by Ramona McConkie:
When Allyse and I were recording last fall, she also sang this new version of “An Angel to Watch Over Me,” also with Ramona on cello:
At the time, I wasn’t sure I wanted to include it in the KidsAndGrandbabies project, because… it wasn’t written as a children’s song… it’s not for or about my kids… it’s certainly not about *me*… blah blah blah…
but…
It’s definitely the way I hope my grandbabies will remember their own mother. So it’s getting included.
Next up: Well, it should be the song for #3, but Malachi’s song is proving to be a challenge, soooo…. yet another version of “If the Savior Stood Beside Me.” Three more, in fact. How does this happen?
I LOVE your music! It fills me with the spirit so easily!! I was a primary chorister for years and I wish I was there now teaching them this song. Every child needs this message stuck in their mind and soul so that when hard times come they will know He is as close as a quiet prayer. Thank you for sharing your talents!!
I love Close as a quiet Prayer, but I’m unable to locate the sheet music for the accompaniment found on the soundtrack. I believe that children single better with an accompaniment rather than a simple hymn arrangement. Thanks for the spiritual experience you give me through music Sally!!!
“An Angel to Watch Over Me,” made tears come to my eyes, as I remembered my Christ-like mother.
You have captured that memory and so amazingly— set it to exquisite music. Thank you!
Beautiful, beautiful Sally just as all of your songs are, touched by our heavenly Fathers light and filled with His Eternal love. Bless you and your never ending talents to each and every one of us…
Oh Sally, you’ve done it again. In this world children need to know Heavenly Father is close.
Beautiful song. Simplicity at its finest. I love it so much. Thank you for your God-given talents.
Have you ever written a flute solo? I’m looking for one to play for my Granddaughter’s baptism in June.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful music with us! My choir enjoys your Christmas songs in particular, each year.
What a beautiful legacy to leave your grandchildren. Such a precious gift to give them, not only of music, but of your passion, love and talent.
What a beautiful song. Thank you for sharing your talents.
Thank you for this beautiful song! My mother passed away three years ago and she certainly was an angel and guide in my life. I miss her every day!
Your beautiful music is an inspiration & comfort to so many. I have used so much of your music in my choirs. What a blessing you are to us. Thank you. Have a great day. Cute little boy!! Kayla Marlene Bond
Thank you for touching our hearts with your beautiful and inspiring music. They truly are a sign of Heavenly Father’s love for each of us personally.
May you continue to receive inspiration from above to share the wonderful feeling of the spirit through divine and holy music.
We are all blessed by your talents and pray you will continue to compose these sacred songs. These tender songs inspire us all but most importantly our precious children.
Thank you, thank you for your beautiful talent and your willingness to share it. I love your songs and arrangements of hymns. May the Lord continue to bless you.
